Beijing, China - Wanfang Hengli Warehousing 10,000m² Logistics Cold Storage

Project Basic Information

Beijing Wanfang Hengli Warehousing Co., Ltd. is a leading large-scale warehousing, logistics and distribution service provider in Beijing. To meet expanding demands for large-capacity storage and high-frequency turnover, the company launched a dual-function cold storage complex with a total floor area of 10,000 m² and storage capacity of 50,000 tons. Our company was entrusted to design and construct the project in two consecutive phases, delivering a reliable, energy-saving and cost-effective cold-chain solution.

Customer Core Requirements

As a warehousing enterprise handling large cargo volumes and high turnover rates, the client’s demands differ fundamentally from production facilities. The system must sustain long-term full-load operation across vast spaces while maintaining temperature consistency under frequent door openings and high-density cargo stacking.

• Large-capacity full-load stability: The 7,000 m² frozen warehouse must maintain uniform temperature during continuous full-load operation, with no cold spots or warm zones that could compromise stored cargo.

• Long-pipeline liquid supply reliability: Traditional direct-expansion systems suffer uneven liquid supply and blockage in extensive pipeline networks; the client needed a solution eliminating these structural defects.

• Phased investment and cost control: Phase II must maximize reuse of Phase I infrastructure, avoiding redundant equipment procurement and controlling total project investment without sacrificing performance.

• High-frequency turnover adaptability: The system must handle constant cargo in-and-out operations without temperature fluctuation, supporting transit, sorting and distribution workflows.

• Proven contractor capability: The client needed a partner with the engineering capacity to implement the barrel pump fluorine system — a high-threshold technology that few enterprises in China can deploy stably, requiring both design expertise and construction experience at scale.

Targeted Solutions

We designed distinct technical strategies for each phase. Phase I deploys the centralized barrel pump fluorine system to overcome structural limitations of direct-expansion in large spaces. Phase II applies a system-reuse approach leveraging Phase I main units as cooling source, achieving efficient expansion with minimal additional equipment.

Phase I - Centralized Barrel Pump Liquid Supply Fluorine System

For the 7,000 m² low-temperature frozen warehouse, we adopted the centralized barrel pump liquid supply fluorine system. The barrel pump provides stable pressure and sufficient flow to every evaporator, ensuring uniform temperature throughout the entire storage space. Rationale: in large-scale, long-pipeline fluorine systems, traditional DX leads to uneven liquid supply and inconsistent cooling across zones; the barrel pump overcomes this by delivering consistent refrigerant distribution at scale, essential for protecting 35,000 tons of frozen cargo under continuous full-load operation. The barrel pump structure also reduces dirt clogging in long pipelines, protecting solenoid valves and expansion valves from impurity accumulation, lowering failure rates and maintenance cost.

Phase I Equipment - HANBELL Screw Compressors & Evaporative Condensers

Two sets of 60HP three-parallel HANBELL screw compressor units deliver strong cooling capacity, stable output and high adaptability to variable load conditions. Two 430kW evaporative condensers provide high heat exchange efficiency and low power consumption. 81 sets of high-efficiency double-fin aluminum evaporators deliver large heat exchange area, fast cooling speed and uniform temperature distribution. Rationale: logistics cold storage runs at full load for extended periods with variable load patterns during peak and off-peak turnover; three-parallel compressors adapt to these fluctuations while evaporative condensers maintain heat rejection efficiency under harsh conditions.

Phase II - System Reuse & Minimal Configuration Expansion

For the 3,000 m² chilled warehouse, we proposed system reuse rather than building an independent refrigeration system. The existing Phase I main compressor units serve as cooling source, with only one low-pressure circulation tank and one 480kW evaporative condenser added. Liquid and gas regulating stations are eliminated, and air-cooled evaporators are applied at end units for flexible installation and convenient maintenance.

Rationale: actual cooling demand under stable full-load operation is much lower than the designed maximum capacity; reusing Phase I units avoids repeated investment in major equipment while maintaining full performance, and eliminating auxiliary stations simplifies pipeline design and shortens the construction period. The client directly renewed the contract for Phase II based on the outstanding performance of Phase I.

Solution Advantages & Customer Value

• Leading technical strength: The high-threshold barrel pump fluorine system solves uneven cooling, easy blockage and poor stability that plague large cold storages using traditional DX — a technology few enterprises in China can implement stably.

• Outstanding cost control: Phase II reuses existing Phase I system resources to the maximum extent, saving costs in equipment procurement, pipeline installation, civil engineering and electrical works, while shortening the construction period for earlier operation and income generation.

• Logistics scenario adaptability: Customized for large-capacity, high-turnover, long-term continuous operation, fully matching modern warehouse workflows including transit, sorting and distribution.

• Industry benchmark value: Balances advanced technology, economic efficiency and operational reliability, providing a replicable model for similar logistics cold storage expansion projects.

Contractor Capabilities & Outlook

The project has been running smoothly since commissioning, earning high recognition from the client and setting a benchmark for large-scale logistics cold storage in the Beijing region. Our core capabilities include:

• Mastery of the centralized barrel pump liquid supply fluorine system, a high-threshold technology with rare stable implementation capacity in the domestic industry.

• Phased project strategy: designing Phase II to leverage Phase I infrastructure, maximizing system reuse and controlling total investment without sacrificing performance.

• Full-chain service from scheme design through equipment selection, construction, installation, system commissioning and after-sales support, validated by the client’s direct contract renewal for Phase II.
